Although I did enjoy the 5th Harry Potter movie, it was nothing in comparison to the book. The top ten things missing from the movie (in no particular order):
- Harry's interview with the Quibbler
- The Weasley Twins' dramatic exit from Hogwarts with the Swamp and great dialogue with Umbridge
- Hermione's charm on the DA sign-up that resulted in Marietta having purple pustules and the word "SNEAK" on her face
- Kreacher's role in the whole story, especially regarding Harry going after Sirius in the Dept. of Mysteries
- The Golden Statues fighting for Dumbledore in the Ministry of Magic
- Hagrid's experience when visiting the giants
- Luna, Ginny, Ron, and Neville's great escape from the Inquisitorial Squad
- Cleaning Number 12 Grimmauld Place
- The rooms in the Dept. of Mysteries, and the real battle that takes place there (where the students use the skills they learned from the DA)
- Harry never really gave Lucius Malfoy the Prophecy
Are there any other events that you really loved in the book, that weren't in the movie?
Oh, and I missed Dobby and Firenze...

oh i soooooo agree!!!!!! i had a very similar list!!!! although i must say i didn't miss cho weeping all the time! :)
I like everything that you wrote. I too missed all of those things. I was really looking forward to the battle in the Ministry and was disappointed that it was so short. One thing that I wanted to see was when a bunch of the order including Mad Eye and Tonks accompanied Harry to meet the Dursleys after he got off the train and pretty much told them to treat Harry right. I wanted them to develope Tonks a little more too.
I agree with all you said... I also noticed:
1.) The complete absense of Bill Weasley (who I believe we were supposed to meet for the first time).
2.) The complete lack of mentioning Percy's role with the Minister of Magic and how he'd abandoned his parents.
3.) The part where Mrs. Weasley encounters the boggarts at Sirius' house and it turns into the thing she fears most -- the dead bodies of Harry, her husband, and all her kids.
4.) They never mentioned Ron and Hermione were prefects.
5.) The scene in the hospital, when Harry, Ron and Hermione go to visit Mr. Weasley and unexpectedly see Nevil visiting his parents.
I'm sure there are more, too. But most of these things are SMALL things that I NOTICED missing -- not necessarily things I was UPSET about. The main thing I noticed (other than the incredibly slow and talky first half) was the fact that NONE of the characters, other than Harry and perhaps Umbridge, seemed to be a MAIN character ... it was more of an ensemble thing, and I liked that a lot. Though I agree some characters, mainly Tonks and Luna (who I thought was disappointing), could have been developed more.
I agree with ALL those comments - and would have liked to see the some of those events. Admittedly that is a lot of stuff to cram in and apparently a 4 hour movie (or more) is hard to sell? Bill definitely should have been developed - as now it is possible the next movie will not include his being attacked by Fenir - as he is not even introduced yet. Tonks also plays an interesting character role in number 6 - will that be dumped?
